Aunt Laura Mpahlwa Inaugural Memorial Lecture

March 27, 2024 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Mpahlwa family is pleased to announce the official launch of the Aunt Laura Mpahlwa Foundation in honour of our late mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a well known business woman and community builder in Mthatha and beyond. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Primary Healthcare by the Walter Sisulu University in 2000 in recognition of her contribution in the Healthcare sector, including her selflessness and dedication to the upliftment of communities.

In honour of her various achievements as a pioneer of black business, a
veteran in the healthcare profession, and her contribution towards freedom and democracy, Dr. Laura Mpahlwa was awarded posthumously the National Order of Luthuli in Silver by H.E. President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2021.

The launch will take the form of an Inaugural Memorial Lecture at the Walter Sisulu University to be delivered on 27 March 2024 at 18h00 by Ms Gloria Tomatoe Serobe, an accomplished business woman, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Women Investment Portfolio Holdings and the incoming Chancellor of Tshwane University of Technology.

This date is significant to us in that it marks almost 5 years since the passing of Aunt Laura, and furthermore, she would be turning 95 years of age later that week.

The lecture also will be streamed live on online media platforms.

We will be honoured to see you there.
