Who are we

The ALM Foundation is a non-profit organization, with section 18A PBO status, that was founded in 2020. Our focus is mainly being a key partner in the upliftment of marginalised and vulnerable communities. We are passionate about forming key partnerships to drive our key main pillars, namely: community development, education, entrepreneurship for social impact, and healthcare - with active citizenry as a core value.
Our projects

Eluxolweni Street Child Programme A centre for homeless boys aged between 8 and 23 years based in Mthatha, who were placed through a court order and referrals from the community. Siyakhana Youth Outreach & Education Programme A centre for abandoned children aged between 6 and 18 years based in Mthatha, who are victims of gender-based violence, sexual abuse and substance abuse.

Mission
Our mission is to promote life-changing programmes through advocacy and active citizenry drawing from the legacy of our patron, Aunt Laura Mpahlwa, focusing on service and social responsibility.

Our Pillars

community

Aunt Laura dedicated most of her life to the most vulnerable being the needy, the disabled, former prisoners, returning exiles, pensioners, street kids and many others. These include Eluxolweni Umtata Street Child  & Youth Care Programme, and Siyakhana Youth Outreach and Education Programme.

Business

She championed the establishment of various institutions within the business community in the former Transkei having mentored a number of successful black entrepreneurs. These include NAFCOC, Eastern Cape Chamber of Business.

healthcare

She was recruited by the University of Transkei’s Faculty of Health Sciences in which she would spearhead building a relationship between the university and local communities. These include UCHPP and Embekweni Clinic. .

citizentry

Aunt Laura was elected Ward Councillor of King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality for Mthatha in which she oversaw the construction and completion of 986 RDP houses at Maydene Farm.

Education

She assisted in sourcing land and funding for the establishment of various schools at which she would also play a key role as member of the school governing body. These include Umtata International School..
